Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a Level 1 Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of OR experience in a Level I or II Trauma Center and a NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Large academic teaching hospital with 900+ licensed beds, Level 1 Trauma and Level 1 Pediatric Trauma designations, Magnet status, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center
  • 32 OR suites plus 1 procedure room, averaging 70–100 cases per day
  • Case types include general surgery, transplants, minimally invasive/laparoscopic, robotics (DaVinci XI), GYN, surgical and ortho oncology, orthopedic trauma, neuro spine, neuro (heads/brains, skull-based tumors), plastics, deep flap reconstructions, and head/neck free flaps
  • Night shift position (1825–0700), 36 hours per week
  • No floating required
  • No call required for night shift nurses, though picking up optional overnight call is welcome (subject to change)
  • Weekend call rotation is not required for night shift; however, if applicable, one weekend call shift every 6–8 weeks (0600 Saturday – 0600 Monday) with a 1-hour response time
  • EMR: Epic (preferred)
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of OR RN experience in a Level I or II Trauma Center required; Level III or below not accepted
  • Proficiency in circulating cases required; must be comfortable with traumas (MVAs, GSWs, blunt force trauma, head/neck injuries), ex-laps, and craniotomies
  • Comfort setting up cardiac cases is preferred
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

  • RNs in this role circulate cases and do not prep or recover patients
  • Preferred soft skills include being a team player, flexible, and willing to learn
  • Department support includes a Clinical Supervisor, Charge RN (24/7), OR Assistants, Anesthesia/CRNA team, Service Line Leads (days), and a Materials/SPD team
  • Schedule follows a modified self-schedule model with manager oversight; block scheduling is an option
  • 50% of holidays in a contract are required
  • Time off requests are subject to manager approval
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility; extended sizing is available
  • Parking is free
  • Orientation includes a new employee orientation (NEO) followed by unit-specific orientation for the remainder of the week; additional orientation time may be available upon request
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
  • Candidates must not have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility within the past year
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
