Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Post Surgical Unit position requiring acute care surgical floor experience and stepdown/PCU experience, working night shifts in an inpatient hospital setting.

Details

  • Inpatient post-surgical unit in an acute care hospital setting
  • Cares for pre- and post-operative patients including ENT and transplant cases; stepdown patients also cared for on this unit
  • Experience with patients requiring drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGT, and DHT is essential to this role
  • Patient ratios are 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for stepdown patients
  • Night shift, 12-hour days, 3 days per week (36 hours/week)
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active RN license (Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or eNLC compact license) currently in hand
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association required
  • Minimum 1 year of acute care surgical floor nursing experience required
  • Stepdown/PCU experience required
  • ENT and/or transplant experience preferred
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program required; BSN preferred
  • OR (operating room) candidates will not be accepted for this position
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

  • Provides nursing care to post-surgical patients with varying levels of acuity, including stepdown-level care
  • Responsibilities include monitoring physiological data, administering medications, managing IV infusions and blood products, assisting with minor diagnostic procedures, and documenting patient responses to treatment
  • Collaborates with physicians, delegates tasks to support staff, and communicates care plans with patients and families
  • All certifications must be issued by the American Heart Association
  • Candidates who have previously worked at this facility must have a 6-month separation period before being eligible for a new contract (prior travelers may only extend once, for a total of 26 weeks)
  • Compliance with onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, medical requirements) must be completed promptly after acceptance — this facility strictly enforces compliance deadlines and will not negotiate start dates

The unit I was on was mostly made up of travel nurses, which they seem the hire some of the laziest people I’ve ever met. There is a reason they offer such a high pay rate because this place is horrible.
