Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Stepdown position at a Magnet, Level I Trauma teaching hospital in Oregon, requiring at least 2 years of PCU/Stepdown experience and specialized neuro skills including vasoactive drip management.

• Position is in a Neuro Stepdown unit at a short-term acute care Magnet, Level I Trauma teaching hospital
• Patient population includes Ischemic Stroke, Hemorrhagic Stroke, Status Epilepticus, and Post-Craniotomy/Neurosurgery cases
• Specialized procedures include Post-Thrombolytic Care
• Specialized equipment includes Hamilton C1 Ventilators, External Ventricular Devices (EVDs), and Lumbar Drains
• Vasoactive medication management is a core part of the role
• Patient ratio is 1:3
• Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
• Variable weekend requirements
• Floating is required within the Acute Care division, including to a nearby affiliate hospital; refusal to float may result in contract cancellation
• No on-call requirements
• Epic is used for charting; experience is preferred but not required
• Local candidates are accepted

Requirements

• Active Oregon (OR) RN license required; pending license accepted if application has been submitted and received by the licensing board to qualify for the 90-day license exemption
• Minimum 2 years of PCU, DOU, IMC, or Stepdown experience required
• Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required
• 6 hours of stroke continuing education (CEs) required
• Proficiency in titrating vasoactive drips required
• Experience with care of ventilated patients required
• COVID vaccination proof required with no exemptions
• Two manager or supervisor references from within the last 24 months required; Charge RN references are not acceptable

• This is a newly opening unit launching mid-contract
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates who are former employees or previous travelers at this facility must provide a reference from the supervising manager at that facility
• Candidates must have been away from this facility for at least 6 months to return as a traveler
• All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of consideration; maximum of 5 RTO days approved for a 13-week contract, 7 days for 18 weeks
• Any approved RTO exceeding 5 days requires extending the contract end date to ensure a full 13-week assignment
• Solid-color scrubs only — no prints
• Public transportation is highly encouraged; daily parking passes are available for $16 (required only 8am–5pm)
