Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and a GA or compact RN license.
Details
- Float pool position covering all Med/Surg Telemetry units within a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital
- Each Med/Surg unit has between 20 and 36 beds
- Patient population includes acute and chronic disease, common med/surg co-morbidities (diabetes, hypertension, infections, electrolyte imbalances), cardiac patients (post-cath, CHF, a-fib), and post-surgical patients (general, ortho, trauma)
- Patient ratios: RN 1:4–6, LPN 1:4–6, CNA up to 1:14
- Required tele skills include monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms, post-cath care, TR bands, and post-cath groin site management (no sheath pulls)
- Required drip management includes insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine — titration for HR only, not BP
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, and Nova Glucose Stat Strips
- 12-hour night shifts, 7PM–7AM, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation of 5–6 shifts per 6-week schedule cycle
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to all Med/Surg Telemetry units and Baldwin unit as needed
Requirements
- Active GA or compact RN license required
- BLS required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Skills required include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts and IV maintenance, glucommander, strong assessment and time management, care coordination with interdisciplinary team, discharge planning, and patient education
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being eligible
Additional Information
- Facility is a Level 1 Trauma center, teaching hospital, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center
- Support staff includes CNAs, unit secretaries (on-unit 7AM–11PM, house-wide after), charge nurses, discharge nurses, a Resource team, PICC team, and 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage
- Central telemetry monitoring unit is available for tele tech support
- Orientation consists of 1 day of general facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- A manager interview is required as part of the selection process
- An EKG competency exam is required during onboarding
- Holiday coverage required — travelers are expected to work one shift of each major holiday grouping: Thanksgiving Day or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1
- RTO requests must be submitted through and approved by the manager
- RN scrub color is navy blue
- Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies, and the same rate applies for local travelers
