Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Oncology/Med-Surg position requiring 1.5+ years of acute care pediatric experience, chemotherapy administration skills, and active NJ or Compact RN licensure.
Details
- Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Pediatric Med-Surg and Hematology/Oncology unit within a 665-bed quaternary care academic teaching hospital
- Patient population includes general pediatrics, hematology/oncology, orthopedic, and surgical patients ranging from neonates to adolescents
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 (may vary based on census, acuity, and staffing)
- Requires every other weekend availability
- Floating within appropriate skillset is required without exception
- Charting performed in Epic (experience required)
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NJ or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and PALS certifications required; APHON certification preferred
- Minimum 1.5 years of acute care pediatric nursing experience required
- Chemotherapy/oncology experience required
- Proficiency in IV therapy and phlebotomy, including starting and maintaining IVs, peripheral line care, central line blood draws, central line and implanted port care and management, blood and blood product administration, and TPN/lipid administration
- Experience administering chemotherapy, anti-seizure medications, insulin, and performing pediatric dosage calculations
- General pediatric care skills including breastfeeding support, bottle/breast/gavage feedings, oxygen delivery systems, seizure disorder management, and fracture care
- Experience with urinary catheter insertion and management, renal failure care, infection prevention, isolation precautions/PPE, and wound assessment and care
- Epic EMR experience required

- Care is provided within the Children's Hospital of New Jersey, which is part of RWJBarnabas Health, New Jersey's largest integrated healthcare system
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays per unit needs
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted
- Former RWJBH employees (full-time or PRN) must have been separated from the health system for a minimum of 1 year before being eligible for a travel assignment
- SSN and DOB are required for consideration
- Two current professional references required for consideration

Staff and management are very friendly. The ratios are pretty good. Sometimes it gets very busy and sometimes transport is put in by someone else before you even have the patient ready to go. They are very flexible with scheduling and their weekend requirements are reasonable.
