Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Med-Surg/Oncology position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring active chemo certification and a minimum of 1 year of oncology and PCU experience.
Details
- Acute care setting at a Level I Trauma Center
- Mixed PCU, Med-Surg, and Oncology unit with 28 beds
- Patient population includes oncology and trauma adults
- PCU ratios: 1:4 (days), 1:5-6 (nights); Med-Surg ratio: 1:5
- Common drips include chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix; RNs may be required to titrate insulin and cardizem
- Specialized equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000), and ventilators
- EMR: Epic (experience within the last 6 months is noted during orientation planning)
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- Every other weekend required
- Self-scheduling
- Floating required to same level of care (Med-Surg and PCU units)
Requirements
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS, and ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Certification
- Minimum 1 year of oncology and PCU experience required
- BSN not required
- Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify permanent residence outside the 50-mile radius
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Candidates who have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- An open-book, pass/fail skills exam is administered during orientation — a minimum score of 90% is required to pass
- Orientation is 2 days (approximately 12 hours)
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to comply may result to contract termination
- Unit support staff includes CNAs, charge nurses, PT/OT, RN case managers, social workers, educators, and dieticians
- Competencies in ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000) are needed; training available in real time
- RTO must be disclosed upfront; 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; no additional RTO will be approved after consideration
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
