Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position requiring stepdown/PCU experience, with floating responsibilities and every-other-weekend availability.

Details

• Day shift position in a hospital Med/Surg unit with an adjacent PCU
• Patient population spans adolescents, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics with diagnoses including stroke, hyperglycemia, chest pain, AMS, renal failure, AFib, and general medical conditions
• Unit serves as a stroke unit and includes a pediatric patient population
• Patient ratios are 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights and weekends
• Floating to the PCU unit is required and occurs frequently
• Schedule includes weekdays, every other weekend, and holidays as needed
• EMR: Meditech (experience preferred but not required)
• Teleneuro cart used on unit

Requirements

• Active SC RN license or compact license with SC as the state of residence required
• Current AHA certifications required: BLS and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
• Stepdown or PCU experience required due to floating responsibilities
• Clean license with no disciplinary actions or background issues
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify; locals within 50 miles are not accepted
• PDF copies of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
• COVID-19 and flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions and declinations allowed)

Additional Information

• Core clinical skills include IV therapy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, NG tube management, wound care, urinary catheter management, insulin administration, oxygen delivery, and tracheostomy care
• Stroke unit duties involve use of a teleneuro cart and NIHSS assessments
• Interdisciplinary team includes physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, social services, rapid response teams, radiology, phlebotomy, and a unit secretary
• Orientation is 24 hours; pre-start modules averaging 8 hours are also required and are self-reported
• Holiday coverage required for New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas
• RTO must be pre-approved before assignment start; minimal to no RTO is expected, especially early in the assignment
• Former staff are eligible to return if they have been gone for at least 1 year and left in good standing
