Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Med/Surg Tele travel assignment in Arizona, requiring at least 2 years of experience and active AZ or Compact RN licensure.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a combined Med/Surg Telemetry unit (4A and 4B) with 48 total beds
- Patient population includes COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetics, telemetry, TIA/CVA, and general, orthopedic, and spinal surgical patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, with nurse aides available at a 1:10–15 ratio
- Telemetry is monitored remotely by monitor techs on a separate floor; RNs are required to interpret and sign strips at least once per shift
- Set-rate Diltiazem drips are used; RNs are not required to titrate drips
- BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, and breathing treatments are utilized on this unit
- Charting is done in Cerner; prior Cerner experience is strongly recommended due to limited orientation time
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break
- Every other weekend requirement (2 weekends per 4-week schedule)
- Holiday coverage expected for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and Thanksgiving Day
- Floating may be required to the East Campus and possibly a PCU if qualified; travelers are first to float
- No on-call or standby requirements
- Schedules are made 4 weeks out using self-scheduling, subject to manager balancing
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
- Experience reading and interpreting basic telemetry strips required
- Experience with general and orthopedic surgical patients, CVA, and TIA required
- Cerner EMR experience strongly recommended
- A valid driver's license must be provided for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates (as determined by driver's license address)
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of 1 shift on the unit (12 hours total)
- Candidates must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (basic or advanced) exam before an offer can be confirmed
- A pass/fail skills test on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates previously placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Navy blue scrubs are required
- Charge nurses do not take patient assignments; house supervisors are also available for support
- BSN is not required for this position

Traveler friendly, good ratios, great scheduling, decent providers, Uses tiger text to communicate with most doctors. Plenty of hiking activities. Close to Sedona, Flagstaff and Phoenix. 5:1 Med/tele and 3:1 PCU.
Cons
Cost of living is High, roughly $2000-2500 for your own private space. Float between East and West Campus, 25 minutes apart, west will likely be where you spend 75% of your shifts so pick your housing accordingly.
