Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center facility in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a willingness to float across a multi-facility region.
Details
- Work in a 32-bed Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit at a 241-bed, Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC
- Patient population includes stroke, respiratory illnesses (flu, pneumonia, COVID), renal failure, peritoneal dialysis, and wound care cases
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6, with potential surge ratios of 1:7-8
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — candidates who are not agreeable to this floating requirement should not apply
- EMR: Epic
- Virtual nursing (VNO) system in use with 10 cameras — virtual RNs can serve as a second witness for certain medications, monitor high-acuity patients, and assist with admissions and discharges
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone), wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; if contracted hours cannot be met, time must be added to the end of the contract
- Orientation includes facility-level (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Department support includes CNAs (ADLs, mobility, feeding), a charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), intensivist (24/7), and telemetry monitoring technicians — no HUC on unit
- Required scrub color: Navy

- Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
