Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night-shift Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Hermitage, TN, requiring 2 years of PCU experience and active BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting within an acute care hospital in Hermitage, TN
• Two PCU cost centers: unit 630 (34 beds) and unit 633 (25 beds)
• Patient ratios of 1:4–1:5 on days and 1:5–1:6 on nights
• Unit is supported by tech staff (3 techs when full on 630, 2 when full on 633)
• Equipment used includes BiPAPs, high-flow O2, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, peritoneal dialysis equipment, and wound vacs
• Documentation system: Meditech
• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week
• Every other weekend required
• Floating may be required between PCU units or to med-surg floors

Requirements

• Active RN license — TN state license or compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start
• Minimum 2 years of recent PCU or progressive care nursing experience
• Strong critical thinking skills and EKG rhythm interpretation ability
• Experience with cardiac drips, heparin drips, and insulin drips required
• Experience with BiPAPs, high-flow O2, and multiple oxygen delivery systems required
• Peripheral IV skills required
• US Social Security Number (SSN) and date of birth (DOB) required for consideration — no Canadian SSNs accepted
• At least one professional reference required (two required if candidate is from Florida or Missouri)
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — no local candidates accepted

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include care of PCU patients requiring cardiac monitoring, drip management, and advanced respiratory support
• Procedures performed on the unit include peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, NG/Dobhoff tube insertions, central line dressing changes, and wound vac troubleshooting
• Experience with peritoneal dialysis is preferred but not required
• Experience with stroke and post-cardiac cath care is preferred
• Experience with tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tubes is preferred
• Patient experience expectations include hourly rounding on days, every-2-hour rounding on nights, use of AIDET communication standards, and maintaining communication boards
• Unit utilizes self-scheduling on a 4-week schedule cycle
• Black scrubs are required
• Strong teamwork culture — most travelers extend after their first assignment on this PCU
