Description

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist with a minimum of 2 years of NICU/PICU experience for a 13-week Level I trauma center assignment in Fargo, ND, rotating day and night shifts in a high-acuity specialty unit.

Details

  • Acute care setting at a Level I trauma center with a 40-bed Level IV NICU, 8-bed Peds ICU, and 24-bed Pediatric unit
  • NICU and PICU patient population, with adult general floor experience also beneficial
  • Level IV NICU experience required, including micro-preemie patients at gestational ages 22 weeks and above
  • 12-hour rotating day/night shifts with every other weekend and rotating holidays
  • NICU staffed with 2–4 RTs per shift; Peds/PICU staffed with 1–3 Pediatric RTs per shift; each shift includes a charge RT in both adult and children's areas
  • Epic EMR used for documentation
  • Equipment includes Hamilton G5 & C1, V60, Bunnell HFJV, 3100A & B HFOV, Nitric Oxide, Infant Flow SiPAP, Bubble CPAP, Aerogen, ResMed AutoPAPs, NeoPuff, Sentec TCM, Airvo, Radiometer ABL90 Flex, EPOC POC device, and various home vents (Trilogy, Astral, Vivo)
  • 13-week contract, approximately 36 hours per week

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of recent Respiratory Therapist experience specialized in NICU and/or PICU
  • Level IV NICU experience required, including high-frequency ventilation (Jet/HFJV & HFOV), nitric oxide therapy, and high-risk deliveries
  • Ventilator experience with micro-preemie patients must be clearly documented
  • RRT (NBRC) required; CRT (NBRC) will be considered
  • Active ND state license (NDSBRC) required; license required if applicable
  • Current BLS (AHA), NRP, and PALS (AHA) certifications required
  • ACLS preferred
  • Two current professional references required: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and one from a peer or supervisor in the specialty within the last 3 years
  • Active copies of all certifications required at time of consideration; no pending certifications accepted

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include respiratory assessments and protocols, arterial punctures and blood gas analysis, ventilator and NIV therapy management, medication delivery, airway clearance, intubation assistance, tracheostomy changes and decannulation, extubations, high-risk deliveries, emergency response, ICU rounds, and intra-hospital patient transport
  • Orientation consists of lab-based training with RT education staff followed by preceptor shifts with unit RTs (approximately 8 hours)
  • Candidates who have previously worked at any Sanford Health location must disclose this; prior Sanford Health employees must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their submission date
  • Candidates with a permanent address within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be subject to adjusted compensation
  • Steel gray scrubs required for Peds/PICU; blue hospital-provided scrubs for NICU
  • Opportunity to pick up extra shifts; candidates interested in cross-training to additional campuses may have that option
  • The ideal candidate is self-motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrates strong communication skills with the broader healthcare team
