Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a Thoracic/Vascular Float Pool position at a Level I Trauma, 1,000+ bed academic medical center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of OR experience and prior travel experience.
Details
- 56-bed OR (inpatient and outpatient) with 5 procedural rooms at a Level I Trauma, 1,000+ bed academic medical center
- Assigned to the Thoracic/Vascular Team within the OR Float Pool
- Adult patient population only; Pediatric OR is a separate facility
- Case types include: neuro, trauma, general, ortho, GYN, urology, ENT, plastics, cardiothoracic, vascular, transplant (liver, renal, pancreas), robotic, hybrid rooms (cysto, bronch, lead extraction), ambulatory ortho, burn, and hepatobiliary
- 12-hour day shifts, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (specific days vary based on unit need; block scheduling is not available)
- Late stays required based on unit need
- Floating within the OR is required; floating between separate facility locations is not required
Requirements
- Active RN license — TN state license or Compact RN license required and must be in hand at time of consideration
- Current BLS certification required and must be on file at time of consideration
- Relevant OR certifications must be current and on file at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of OR experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Thoracic/vascular OR experience required
- Proficiency in endovascular cases required for circulator and scrub roles
- Must be able to both circulate and scrub; scrub experience is required
Additional Information
- RN will function as both circulator and scrub across a wide range of surgical cases on the thoracic/vascular team
- This is a high-acuity environment supporting transplant and trauma/neuro patient populations at a Level I Trauma center
- 13-week assignment

Pros
Lots of resources, Nurses week is awesome they really do a lot. Ratios in ICU always 1:2 or 1:1 with CRRT or devices.
Cons
pay is low, cheap university do not want to spend money on smaller things. Charting system is epic but the amount of charting is a lot. Very tasky, doctors put in lots of orders. Little room for nurse driven protocols everything is asking for permission.
