Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a CVOR position at a large academic Level 1 trauma center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of CVOR experience and prior travel nursing experience.
Details
- Work in the OR Float Pool of a 1,000+ bed academic Level 1 trauma center with a 56-bed OR (inpatient and outpatient) and 5 procedural rooms
- Patient population includes complex CABG, valve and repeat cardiac procedures, heart failure, ECMO, VAD, heart and lung transplant, PTE, cardiac trauma, and adult congenital cases
- Adult patient population only; pediatric OR is a separate facility
- 12-hour day shifts, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (days may vary week to week based on unit needs; block scheduling is not available)
- Call is required for all travelers in cardiac surgery — 3 layers of call coverage, 24/7, with requirements rotating every 6 weeks
- Floating between OR rooms within the same location may be required
- 13-week assignment
Requirements
- Active RN license — Tennessee (TN) or Compact license required
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Must be able to both scrub and circulate cardiac surgeries
- Experience with complex cardiac cases (CABG, valve repair/replacement, transplant, ECMO, VAD) preferred
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include scrubbing and circulating complex open-heart and cardiac surgical procedures
- Must be available and willing to take call in addition to three 12-hour shifts per week
- This is a high-acuity academic cardiac surgery environment with a broad and complex patient case mix
- Orientation is available on select dates only; no orientation is offered during all weeks of the assignment start period

Pros
Lots of resources, Nurses week is awesome they really do a lot. Ratios in ICU always 1:2 or 1:1 with CRRT or devices.
Cons
pay is low, cheap university do not want to spend money on smaller things. Charting system is epic but the amount of charting is a lot. Very tasky, doctors put in lots of orders. Little room for nurse driven protocols everything is asking for permission.
