Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week travel assignment in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.
Details
- Mixed ICU setting divided into pods, encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU across 39 beds
- Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
- Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma — heavy trauma population
- Cardiac experience (CABG/TAVR, 24–48 hrs post-op) is preferred but not required
- Patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3, acuity-dependent
- 12-hour day shifts, 48 hours per week
- Charting via Epic (required); also uses Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell
- Every other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
- No on-call requirements
- Floating to adult floors, including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio, is possible but not common
Requirements
- Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) or Compact license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start if not already held)
- Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience
- Epic EMR experience required
- Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
- Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
- Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Two professional references dated within the past year
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
- Minimum of one prior travel assignment required — first-time travelers will not be considered
- Permanent staff who have previously worked at the facility must wait one year before returning as a traveler
- Orientation includes hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation, one 4-hour iLearns session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts
- Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit, a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 RT coverage, and 3 intensivists on days / 2 on nights plus an APP on nights
- ICU CRNs place all midlines; phlebotomy handles peripheral blood draws only
- May be expected to precept nursing students
- No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
- RTO of up to 7 days may be approved, but the contract must be extended to fulfill the full 13-week commitment
