Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience and Epic proficiency.
Details
- Float pool position covering all inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry units within the hospital, with additional floating to the ED for holds as needed
- Large academic teaching hospital with 637 licensed beds, Level 1 Trauma designation, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center
- Patient population includes acute and chronic disease, common med-surg co-morbidities (diabetes, hypertension, infections, electrolyte imbalances), cardiac patients (post-cath, CHF, A-fib), and post-surgical patients (general, ortho, trauma)
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6
- 12-hour night shifts (1900–0700), 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation of 5–6 shifts per 6-week schedule
- EMR: Epic (6 months of experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; monitors: Philips; vitals: VS3 monitors
- Central telemetry monitoring unit on-site
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active GA or Compact RN license required
- BLS required; ACLS preferred (EKG competency exam required during onboarding)
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience
- At least 6 months of Epic experience required
- Telemetry skills required: cardiac rhythm monitoring and interpretation, post-cath care, TR band management, and groin site management (no sheath pulls)
- Required drip management: insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine (titration for HR, not BP)
- Clinical skills required: trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts and IV maintenance, Glucommander, patient assessment, care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

- Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies, and the same rate is offered regardless of proximity to the facility
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being considered
- Support staff includes CNAs, a unit secretary (on-unit 7a–11p, house-wide after), charge nurses, a PICC team, discharge nurses, a resource team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7)
- Orientation consists of 1 day of general onboarding with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage required: one shift each for Thanksgiving Day or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1
- Required scrub color for RNs is navy blue
- Med-Surg nursing certification is a plus
- Unit culture is described as busy and team-oriented
