Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of neuro setting experience and a valid MO or compact RN license.

Details

  • Neuro ICU unit within a large, short-term acute care Magnet and Level I Trauma teaching hospital (1,266 staffed beds)
  • Patient population includes ischemic strokes (post-thrombectomy, post-tPA), hemorrhagic strokes, subdural/epidural hematomas, neuromuscular disorders, seizure disorders, CNS infections, and neurotrauma (GSW, MVC, spinal cord injuries)
  • Patient ratio: 1:2
  • Proficiency with specialized procedures including vasoactive medications, central line/arterial line management, ICP monitoring, CRRT, hypothermia/hyperthermia management, and spinal precautions
  • Specialized equipment includes EVDs (external ventricular drains) and bolts
  • Charting via Epic (experience required)
  • Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
  • No on-call requirements
  • 13-week contract with option to sign for 36 or 48 hours per week

Requirements

  • Active MO RN license or compact RN license valid in Missouri required at time of consideration; pending IL license candidates may be considered with notation
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Preferred certifications: TNCC; BSN preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience, with 2 years specifically in a neuro setting
  • EKG interpretation and dysrhythmia management skills required (Relias EKG exam must be passed)
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with EVDs, bolts, ICP monitoring, vasoactive medications, and central/arterial line management required

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
  • Block scheduling is not available
  • 10 hours of stroke education must be completed in full during orientation; NIHSS certification (if taken within the year) may satisfy up to 3 hours, and a new or renewal ACLS (if taken within the year) may also contribute toward the requirement
  • Must pass the Relias EKG exam (Interpretation/Management of Dysrhythmias) prior to or during onboarding
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Former permanent employees of any BJC facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Travel RNs may work at this facility for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required before returning
  • Parking is available at several nearby lots and garages for a monthly fee; night shift workers park at no charge in employee parking
