Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) position at a 5-time Magnet-designated, Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of recent telemetry experience and both Missouri and Kansas RN licenses in hand.

Details

• 24-bed Intermediate Care Unit within a 456-bed tertiary care hospital
• Accepts intermediate medical patients and surgical overflow including TURP, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic appendectomy, laparoscopic hernia repair, eye surgery, oral surgery, diabetic teaching, and wound care
• Fast-paced unit supporting throughput from both the ED and OR
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, with occasional flex to 1:6
• Day shift: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (3x12-hour shifts)
• 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period (any combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
• Floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required
• No on-call requirements
• Charting via Epic
• Navy scrubs required
• Free parking on-site

Requirements

• Active RN license in both Missouri (or compact) and Kansas required and must be in hand at time of consideration
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/telemetry specialty experience required, including at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days
• Required skills: cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring, Rapid Response Team use, IV insulin protocols, feeding tube care and management, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), accessing ports, blood product administration, central line care/management, peripheral and PICC line management, starting IVs, heparin protocols, PCA management, CVA care, oxygen delivery (nasal cannula, face masks, portable tanks), isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
• Preferred skills: insulin drip titration, renal failure management, ortho trauma, total joint replacement care, surgical drain management, tracheostomy management, and eye surgery care
• Relevant work settings accepted: MS/Tele, Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, ER Holding, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
• 2 professional references required: one from a supervisor or above and one from a charge RN or above, both from within the past year and familiar with recent work
• SSN required for consideration

• Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Completion of compliance modules (approximately 10–15 hours) is required prior to start
