Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry - Admission Discharge Transition Unit position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and proficiency with Epic EMR.
Details
- Work in the Admission Discharge Transition Unit (ADTU), a 16-bed unit that serves as a bridge for ER patients awaiting inpatient admission
- Patient population includes chest pain, syncope, abdominal pain, cellulitis, COPD exacerbation, heart failure observation, dehydration, hypertension, diabetes, post-op day 1, simple trauma, MVC, and fall cases
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6; supported by LPN (1:4–6) and 1–2 CNAs per shift
- 12-hour night shifts, 7PM–7AM, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation of 6 shifts per 6-week schedule
- Floating required to all adult med/surg and telemetry units within the facility
- No on-call requirements
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; cardiac monitors: Philips; unit also uses Glucommander, PCA pain management, VS3 vital sign monitors, bladder scanners, and portable oxygen systems
- Central Telemetry Unit provides cardiac monitoring support
Requirements
- Active RN license — GA or Compact license required
- Associate's degree in nursing minimum
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Proficiency with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin drips (Glucommander), heparin drips, and drips titrated to heart rate
- Strong cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation skills
- IV insertion and maintenance skills required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must provide at least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- This unit functions to decompress the ER by admitting and transitioning patients to inpatient beds, resulting in high patient turnover
- Unit support includes CNAs, a unit secretary (on-unit 7AM–11PM, house-wide coverage overnight), charge nurse, PICC team, discharge nurses, resource team, central telemetry tech, phlebotomy, and 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage
- Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) test is completed during onboarding
- Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays
- RN scrub color is navy blue

- Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
- Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies, and the same rate applies for local travelers at this GA facility
