Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position requiring Epic proficiency and charge nurse capability on night shifts.

Details

  • Hospital Med/Surg unit serving adult and geriatric general medical/surgical patients
  • Daily census of approximately 43 patients with a target ratio of 1:6-7
  • Specialized procedures include insulin drips, heparin drips, wound vac dressing changes, high-flow oxygen, and occasional short-term BiPAC with respiratory support - no additional training required
  • No PCU-level patients on this unit
  • Charting and medication systems include Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR communication
  • Night shift: 12-hour shifts, 18:45–07:15 (3x12s per week)
  • Every other weekend required
  • On-call required for pre-scheduled call shifts
  • Floating to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding areas
  • Contract length of 13–26 weeks accepted

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Must be proficient with insulin and heparin drips
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • CPI certification preferred
  • Must pass an EKG test prior to start
  • Two manager or supervisor professional references required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but must be on file by start)
  • Must be able to work holidays (minimum 2 out of 3 major holidays)

Additional Information

  • Night shift travelers are required to take on a charge nurse role
  • Travelers will be assigned to an Inclement Weather Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or natural disasters such as hurricanes; mid-contract redeployment to other units is possible during such events
  • May care for COVID-positive patients
  • Orientation is 24 hours; pre-start modules of approximately 8–10 hours are also required
  • Navy scrubs required; not provided by the facility
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible at a different rate
  • Former permanent, PRN, or extended placement staff of this health system must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
  • No RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment (orientation); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved provided it does not fall on a holiday
  • RTO cannot be negotiated or adjusted on-site after booking
  • Travel pairs are welcome but must have independent transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
  • Contracts of 36 or 48 hours per week are both accepted
