Description
American Traveler is seeking a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position in Arizona, requiring at least 2 years of experience, telemetry strip interpretation skills, and night shift availability.
Details
- Acute care Med/Surg Telemetry unit on a 49-bed 3rd floor unit
- Patient population includes CHF, COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetics, telemetry, post-cath, and total joint replacement cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with nurse aides available at a 1:10–15 ratio
- RNs are required to interpret telemetry strips and co-sign at least once per shift; monitor techs are also present on the unit
- Set-rate Diltiazem/Cardizem drips are used; RNs are not required to titrate drips
- Respiratory equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, and breathing treatments
- Charting is done in Cerner
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a), 13-week contract
- Every other weekend requirement (2 weekends per 4-week schedule)
- First to float; may float to the East Campus and possibly PCU if qualified
- No on-call or standby requirement
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Ability to read and interpret basic telemetry strips required
- Experience with CVA and TIA patients
- Total joint replacement experience required
- Cerner EMR experience strongly recommended due to minimal orientation (1 shift)
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year (PRN through outside staffing firms is acceptable)
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- A copy of your driver's license is required for consideration
Additional Information
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam with a score of at least 80% within two attempts prior to contract confirmation
- A pass/fail sterile technique assessment (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on the first day of orientation
- Failing either the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or the sterile technique test on the second attempt results in a 6-month DNU status for all CommonSpirit facilities in Arizona and the Sacramento, CA region
- Orientation consists of 1 shift on the unit
- Self-scheduling is used but schedules are finalized by the manager on a 4-week cycle
- Holiday coverage expected for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and Thanksgiving Day — travelers are expected to work 2 days and 1 eve, or 2 eves and 1 day across the holiday cluster
- Required scrub color is navy blue
- Both a charge nurse and house supervisor are present on the unit

Traveler friendly, good ratios, great scheduling, decent providers, Uses tiger text to communicate with most doctors. Plenty of hiking activities. Close to Sedona, Flagstaff and Phoenix. 5:1 Med/tele and 3:1 PCU.
Cons
Cost of living is High, roughly $2000-2500 for your own private space. Float between East and West Campus, 25 minutes apart, west will likely be where you spend 75% of your shifts so pick your housing accordingly.
