Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPC) position at a Level II trauma center hospital in Asheville, NC, requiring stepdown and telemetry experience with a 13-week day shift contract.
Details
- 40-bed Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPC) located on the E4 floor of the Heart Tower at a large 815-bed regional referral hospital
- Primary patient population includes CV surgery and vascular surgery patients: open heart surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR), thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy), esophagogastrectomy, AAA repair (open and endovascular), fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomies
- Overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses including heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, heart block, and similar conditions are also admitted to the unit
- Patient ratio is 1:5 RN-to-patient; PCT ratio is 1:13
- Equipment includes Baxter IV pumps and CADD epidural pumps
- EMR: Cerner
- Day shift: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (12-hour shifts)
- Minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday and/or Sunday) required per 6-week schedule period
- Floating required to stepdown units (1:5 ratios), med-surg units (1:6–7 ratios), or the ED inpatient holding area (1:6)
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA or ARC accepted; certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start)
- Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for PCU RNs
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Stepdown experience required
- Telemetry experience required
- US SSN and DOB required for consideration — Canadian SSNs are not accepted
- One professional reference required (two required if licensed in Florida or Missouri)
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Typical procedures performed on the unit include epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV glucommander, and cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, Cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
- Prior CV surgery and vascular surgery experience (open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass) within the past year is preferred
- CVICU experience is a plus
- Day shift staffing includes 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, and 1.33 HUCs; night shift staffing is similar with 0.33 HUCs
- The hospital is a Level II trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, and holds Magnet® Designation
- Flexibility to work holidays is required
- Scrub attire must be all navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
