Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level II trauma center in Asheville, NC, requiring at least 2 years of experience including 1 year in an ER setting and multiple certifications prior to start.
Details
- 101-bed Emergency Department in a 815-bed hospital serving as the region's referral center for a Level II trauma center and comprehensive stroke center
- Patient ratios are typically 4:1 for medical patients, with up to 7:1 for ED behavioral holds
- Support staff includes techs in cardiac monitoring, internal processing, and triage, as well as unit clerks on days and nights
- Equipment includes Baxter pumps and GE monitors
- Documentation via Cerner
- Night shift schedule: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Every other weekend required; scheduling must meet department needs and block scheduling is not available
- No floating outside of the ED, but flexibility to float to all sections within the ED is required
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year in an ER setting
- Experience in a Level II trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, or high-volume ED (100,000+ annual visits) strongly preferred
- Required certifications prior to start: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, CPI (or accepted equivalent such as SAMA, MAB, or ACPMA), and NIHSS
- ENPC required within 90 days of start
- All certifications must be AHA or ARC issued and must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Teamwork mentality with the ability to coach and give real-time feedback
- SSN (US only, no Canadian) and date of birth required for consideration
- One professional reference required (two required if licensed in Florida or Missouri)
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include delivering patient-centered care aligned with AIDET communication standards, maintaining updated patient boards, and keeping patients informed throughout their visit
- Previous HCA experience is preferred
- The department is known for strong teamwork and a welcoming culture, serving a highly multicultural community with over 120 languages represented in the surrounding area
- Navy scrubs required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible for this position
- The facility has received recognition including Healthgrades America's 50 Best Hospitals (2020–2023), Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade 'A,' and Magnet® Designation
