Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPC) night shift position requiring stepdown and telemetry experience with a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience.
Details
- Located on the E4 CVPC floor of a hospital's Heart Tower, a 40-bed cardiac surgery stepdown unit
- Primary patient population includes CV and vascular surgery patients (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR, lobectomy, thoracotomy, esophagogastrectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomies), with overflow medical cardiology patients (heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, heart block)
- Patient ratio is 1:5 RN to patients; PCT ratio is 1:13
- Night shift staffing includes 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, and 0.33 HUC per shift
- Procedures performed include epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV glucommander, and cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
- Equipment includes Baxter IV pumps and CADD epidural pumps
- EMR: Cerner
- Night shift hours: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) per 6-week schedule period
- No on-call requirements
- Floating may be required to stepdown units (1:5), medical/surgical units (1:6–7), or the ER inpatient holding area (1:6)
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA or ARC accepted; certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the start date)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for PCU RNs
- Minimum 2 years of recent clinical RN experience in a stepdown or PCU setting
- Stepdown experience required
- Telemetry experience required
- US Social Security Number and date of birth required for consideration
- One professional reference required (two required for candidates from Florida or Missouri)
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Prior CV and vascular surgery population experience (open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass) within the past year is preferred
- CVICU experience is preferred
- Holiday coverage flexibility is required
- Dress code: all navy, all white, or white top with navy bottom scrubs
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible for this position
