Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pulmonary Progressive Care Unit (PCU) stepdown position requiring trach experience and at least 2 years of nursing experience.
Details
- Pulmonary Medicine step-down unit (PCU) at a main campus hospital in Asheville, NC
- Unit consists of 23 step-down beds and 16 med-surg beds
- Patient population includes pulmonary medicine patients requiring step-down level care
- Patient ratios: 1:3–4 on the step-down side, 1:4–6 on the med-surg side
- Common equipment includes lifts, chest tubes, cardiac drips, stable vented patients, and trachs
- EMR: Cerner (experience preferred)
- Day shift: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
- Requires 6 weekend shifts (Saturday or Sunday) per 6-week period
- Float requirement to other med-surg and progressive care units
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for PCU RNs
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- Trach care experience required
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
- One professional reference required
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Typical procedures include trach care, chest tube management, and wound dressing changes
- Day shift staffing includes 1 charge nurse, 11 RNs, and 4 PCTs
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Ideal candidates demonstrate flexibility and a high level of clinical competence
