Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring telemetry and drip titration experience on a 12-hour night shift schedule.

Details

  • Acute care stepdown/PCU unit within a Level II Trauma hospital
  • 35-bed unit serving adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring diagnoses
  • Patient ratio of 1:4–5 RN-to-patient; nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:10 ratio
  • RNs are required to titrate drips, including Cardizem, beta-blockers, and seizure medications
  • Continuous EEG monitoring performed on this unit
  • EMR: Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every third holiday required
  • Floating required to medical floors, ICU, or rehab
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Required certifications (AHA): BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted
  • PCU or stepdown unit experience required
  • Epic EMR experience
  • Drip titration experience required
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — a valid driver's license is required for consideration and used to verify permanent address
  • Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Fast-paced unit where success depends on a positive attitude, strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • A charge nurse is present on each shift
  • Orientation consists of onboarding during the first week followed by 1–2 days of unit-specific floor orientation
  • A pass/fail open-book exam covering skills learned during orientation is administered on the first Friday of orientation — a minimum score of 90% is required to continue the contract
  • Candidates who were previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms at CommonSpirit-affiliated facilities will be considered
  • RTO must be disclosed upfront; up to 7 days per 13-week contract is permitted — additional RTO will not be approved
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
  • Scrubs or dress code requirements follow facility policy
