Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week travel assignment in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and active TNCC certification.

Details

• Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
• Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
• Cardiac experience preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR 24–48 hours post-op; fresh open heart cases are not assigned to travelers
• Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 (rare)
• Charting system: Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter pumps)
• 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week standard with a 48-hour/week option available
• Every-other-weekend rotation is expected but not guaranteed
• No on-call requirements
• Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor including Med/Surg/Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed

Requirements

• Active RN license — SD license or Compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start if not already held)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience, strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside the ICU may be considered on a case-by-case basis
• Epic EMR experience required
• Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic line management; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry monitoring
• Strong critical thinking, clinical assessment skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, all-critical-care environment
• Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
• At least one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
• Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include managing complex, critically ill patients across medical, surgical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma populations
• Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 Charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing-dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws, and ICU CRN-placed midlines
• Physician coverage includes 3 intensivists on days and 2 intensivists plus an APP on nights
• Orientation consists of one hospital orientation, one 12-hour ICU shift, and one 8-hour ICU shift
• Navy scrubs required; free parking available on-site
• No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
• Time off requests of up to 7 days may be approved, provided the contract is extended to fulfill the full 13-week commitment
• Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning to this facility as a traveler
