Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Stepdown position at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications with 12-hour night shifts and telemetry/drip titration experience.
Details
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in an acute care hospital setting at a Level II Trauma facility
- 35-bed unit serving adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring diagnoses
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5; nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:10 ratio
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including Cardizem, beta-blockers, and seizure medications
- Charge nurse present on each shift
- EMR: Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
- Every other weekend required
- Every third holiday required
- Floating may be required to medical floors, ICU, or rehab
- No on-call or standby requirement
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
- Current certifications required (AHA): BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Experience in a PCU, stepdown, or similar acute care setting
- Epic EMR experience
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Candidates may not currently be employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity — those who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Orientation consists of a full first week of onboarding followed by 1–2 days of floor-specific orientation
- A pass/fail open-book exam is administered during orientation — candidates must score at least 90% to continue the assignment
- RTO must be requested upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract will be approved, and additional RTO will not be granted after consideration
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
- Scrub/dress code: artificial nails prohibited in all patient care departments
- This is a fast-paced unit — strong communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and a collaborative attitude are key to success
