Description
American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist with 5+ years of experience and an active Hawaii RT license for a 13-week hospital assignment on the island of Kauai.

- Work in the respiratory therapy unit of a hospital setting
- Patient population includes general, critically ill, pediatric, and neonatal patients
- Responsibilities span cardiopulmonary and respiratory therapy modalities
- Flexible shift scheduling required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active Hawaii Respiratory Therapist license required — license required if applicable
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
- RRT or CRT certification recognized by the National Board of Respiratory Care
- Current BLS/BCLS certification
- All licenses and certifications must be currently active
Additional Information
- Initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilators for patients requiring continuous ventilatory support, including adjusting settings based on ABG results and consulting with physicians on therapy modes (IMV, IDV, PEEP, CPAP, BiPAP)
- Perform emergency intubation, airway management, endotracheal and tracheostomy tube care, and participate as part of the CPR/resuscitation team
- Conduct patient assessments, recommend treatment plans, and administer respiratory treatments including nebulization and chest physiotherapy (postural drainage, percussion, vibration)
- Perform pulmonary function testing, pulse oximetry monitoring, and arterial punctures for blood gas analysis
- Conduct EEG electrode placement and polysomnography as part of sleep studies
- Provide patient and family education on respiratory treatments, disease management, peak flow monitoring, ABG interpretation, and oxygen conservation exercises
- Participate in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation services
- Adhere to infection control and safety policies; maintain a clean and well-stocked patient care environment
- Two-day orientation is required: Day 1 covers HR onboarding, safety, risk and quality management, and IT orientation (beginning at 10 AM); Day 2 focuses on EMR training
- Candidates are strongly encouraged to research housing availability on Kauai prior to applying, as options may be limited
- First-time travelers may want to note this is a quick-start position
