Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced travel RN for an ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 2 years of non-travel ICU experience and TNCC certification.

Details

  • Mixed ICU with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
  • Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma; heavy trauma volume
  • Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
  • Cardiac experience preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR post-op (24–48 hrs); not required for travelers
  • Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3
  • 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed
  • Charting system: Epic (required), Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter), and Omnicell

Requirements

  • Active RN license — SD license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel assignments
  • Candidates with 1.5 years of non-travel ICU experience and significant RN experience outside the ICU may be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
  • Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry
  • Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
  • Must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
  • Minimum of one prior travel nursing assignment required — first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit, a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and physician coverage with 3 intensivists on days and 2 on nights plus an APP on nights
  • Travelers will not be assigned fresh open heart cases; those are reserved for permanent staff
  • Orientation includes hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation, one 4-hour iLearns session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts
  • May be expected to precept nursing students
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Free parking available on site
  • No RTO during holidays
  • RTO requests of up to 7 days may be approved; no RTO during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
  • Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
