Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience.
Details
- Work in a 30-bed cardiac step-down/telemetry unit within a 637-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital
- Patient population includes pre/post cardiac and step-down ICU patients with diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, and Sepsis
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6 with 2–3 CNAs per shift
- Telemetry monitoring supported by a Central Telemetry Unit
- EMR: Epic (experience noted); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; monitors: Philips
- Equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, and PCA pain management systems
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation of 6 shifts per 6-week schedule
- Float requirement includes all Med/Surg Telemetry units within the facility
- No on-call or call-back requirements
Requirements
- Active GA or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR/EKG rhythm) certifications required
- ACLS preferred but not required
- Medical-surgical nursing national certification preferred but not required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Level 1 Trauma hospital experience required
- Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and cardiac rate titration drips
- Skills in IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring required
- Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required
- One professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, care coordination with interdisciplinary teams, discharge planning, and patient education focused on renal and fluid management
- CNA support available for vitals, glucose checks, ADLs, ambulation, turning, and transport; unit secretary on-site 7a–11p with house-wide coverage overnight
- Additional support includes a charge nurse, PICC team, discharge nurses, resource float team, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, intensivist, and phlebotomy services
- Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Scrub color: Navy for RNs
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies and the same rate is offered regardless of proximity to the facility
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
