Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring telemetry and arterial line competency, working 12-hour night shifts at a Level II Trauma facility in Nebraska.

Details

  • Acute care stepdown/PCU unit within a Level II Trauma hospital
  • 40-bed unit with an average daily census of 24 patients
  • Patient population includes adults with cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer placement, and renal failure diagnoses
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 on both day and night shifts
  • CNA/patient care tech support available at a 1:12 ratio
  • Charge nurse present on each shift; charge nurse carries a patient assignment
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Insulin
  • RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
  • High-flow oxygen equipment is in use; RNs are expected to manage and troubleshoot as needed
  • EMR: Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Minimum of 2 holidays within the contract period required
  • Floating required to Med/Surg or to ICU to manage PCU-acuity patients

Requirements

  • Active NE RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Competency with arterial lines required
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; a valid driver's license is used to verify permanent address
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Candidates who have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI or Dignity) are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through an outside firm will be considered
  • A pass/fail open-book exam on unit skills is administered on Wednesdays during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — failure to pass may result to contract termination
  • Unit-specific orientation consists of 1 day
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them may result in contract termination
  • If placed on call and called back in, a 30-minute on-site arrival is required
  • RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
  • Blocked scheduling (non-weekend) will not be approved; duo arrangements requiring shared care or the same schedule will not be accommodated
  • Available unit equipment includes overhead lifts (in half of rooms), portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners
  • The unit serves diverse cultural populations, primarily Hispanic and Somali patients; strong communication skills are essential
  • The unit emphasizes patient experience scores, responsiveness, and medication communication
  • Successful candidates are team players who are flexible, adaptable, and receptive to feedback
