Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level III trauma center in Farmington, NM, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and certifications including TNCC.
Details
- Work in a 48-bed Emergency Department (with flex space) at a 198-bed Level III trauma center serving the Four Corners region of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah
- Patient population includes ESRD, cirrhosis, COPD, psychiatric, and substance abuse disorders, with common presentations including chest pain, abdominal pain, CHF, STEMI, stroke, and sepsis
- Patient ratios are 4:1 in the main ED and 6:1 in Fast Track
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Minimum of two weekends per schedule required
- No on-call or float requirements
- EMR: Cerner
- Equipment includes Zoll Defibrillator, Level One Blood Transfuser, QinFlow Blood Warmer, Hospira Plum360, Freestyle and iStat POC, and Ultrasound Guided IV
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NM or Compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC — all must be from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience
- ADN degree required (minimum)
- Experience with trauma, stroke, STEMI, sepsis, and moderate sedation required

- Farmington, NM is located in the San Juan River Valley, approximately 1 hour from Durango, CO and 3 hours from Albuquerque, NM, offering access to hiking, kayaking, historical sightseeing, and six National Parks

Pros
Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.
Cons
It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
