Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, EKG proficiency, and night shift availability.
Details
- Hospital-based Med/Surg Telemetry unit
- Patient population includes pulmonary, general medical, COPD, asthma, trach, and longer length-of-stay patients
- Special procedures include trach care, chest tube management, and O2 therapy including BiPAP/CPAP (no ventilators)
- Patient ratio is 5:1, with occasional 6:1
- 12-hour night shifts, 18:45–07:15
- Weekend requirement: 3 weekends (6 total weekend shifts between Saturday and Sunday) every 6 weeks
- Floating required as needed within the service line
- No on-call requirements
- EMR: Epic; also uses Pyxis and SBAR
- Self-scheduling, balanced by leadership based on unit needs
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
- Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Proficiency in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Telemetry experience preferred
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility may be eligible at a different rate
- Previous permanent, PRN, or per diem employees of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Orientation is conducted weekly; pre-start modules (approximately 8–10 hours for acute care roles) must be completed prior to start and annually
- No RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of RTO may be approved provided it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO beyond 7 days requires facility approval
- Candidate must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Scrubs are not provided; navy blue and white in any combination are required
- Travel pairs are allowed, provided each traveler has their own transportation and is comfortable with different schedules
- Contract extensions beyond 13 weeks are available; 36 or 48 hours per week may be available depending on preference
