Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a mixed-acuity PCU position requiring PCU/IMC experience within the last 3 years and NY RN licensure.
Details
- Mixed-acuity unit serving PCU, MS Telemetry, and MS patients
- Patient population includes surgical pre/post (ENT, general surgery, trauma surgery, ortho surgery), overflow medical diagnoses, and rare pediatric cases — travelers are not assigned to pediatric patients unless they have pediatric experience
- Patient ratios are acuity-adjusted: 1:3–5 on days and weekends, 1:3–6 on nights
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required to sister units: West 2, West 3, and Observation
- Documents on Epic with Pyxis for medication management and SBAR for communication
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NY RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- PCU/IMC experience within the last 3 years is required
- Required clinical skills include: MS/Tele, telemetry, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, Post MI care, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, feeding tube care and management, continuous bladder irrigation, renal failure management, port access, blood product administration, central line care/management, phlebotomy, peripheral and PICC line management, starting IVs, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management and titration, PCA, thrombolytic agents, CVA, seizure disorders, substance withdrawal, ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements, traction, mastectomy, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, oxygen delivery (nasal cannula and face masks), non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy management, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
- PALS and TCAR experience preferred
- Candidate must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- TCAR (TransCarotid Artery Revascularization) experience is preferred for this unit
- Unit orientation is 12 hours
- Solid-color scrubs required
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are not accepted — must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
- Maximum of 7 days of time off (RTO) allowed during the contract
- All time-off requests must be disclosed upfront at the time of consideration
