Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Med/Surg travel assignment at a Level III Trauma facility, requiring at least 1 year of Med/Surg experience and Epic proficiency.
Details
- 38-bed Med/Surg unit within an acute care hospital setting
- Level III Trauma Center
- Patient population includes adults and possibly older teens with a wide variety of diagnoses including pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, respiratory illness, and surgical cases such as orthopedic (hips, knees, shoulders), general surgery (appendix, gallbladder, bowel), spinal surgery, and urology
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6 on both days and nights; must be able to manage a 1:6 assignment
- High patient turnover on days — discharging a patient typically results in a new admission
- RNs are required to titrate drips; common titratable drips include Heparin, with set-rate drips including Bumex and Lasix
- Cardiac monitoring technicians are available 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own telemetry strips
- Respiratory therapy support available 24/7; RT equipment includes trachs, CPAP for OSA, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen (used infrequently)
- Nursing supervisors available 24/7; day shift has two charge nurses who do not take patients, night shift has one charge nurse who does not take patients
- Nurse aides available at a 1:8–1:10 ratio and can perform accuchecks and vital signs
- Charting system: Epic (experience required)
- Schedule: 3x12-hour night shifts (6:00 PM – 6:30 AM)
- Weekend and holiday coverage required on an as-needed basis
- No self-scheduling for travel RNs; blocked scheduling may be accommodated on occasion
- Low census/call cancellation may occur
- May float to the IMCU
Requirements
- Active RN license — Nebraska (NE) or Compact license required
- Current certifications: BLS (AHA or ARC) and CPI
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg RN experience required
- Proficiency with Epic EMR required
- Must be able to manage a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Experience with bedside shift report required
- Experience on the night shift is required for this assignment
- Must reside more than 45 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
Additional Information
- Daily responsibilities include bedside shift report, proactive patient rounding, and assisting with call lights in collaboration with CNAs
- Orientation consists of 1.5 shifts
- Navy blue scrubs required
