Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/IMC Float Pool position in the Colorado Springs Zone 1 area, requiring 2 years of PCU/IMC experience and the ability to float across multiple facilities within a 60-mile radius.

- Float pool position covering PCU/IMC units across multiple acute care facilities within Zone 1 (Colorado Springs, CO area), with no single home base facility
- Float zone includes facilities spanning up to 46 miles from the Colorado Springs city center
- Units covered include PCU/IMC specialties such as General, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Ortho, Trauma, and ED Obs
- Patient population consists of adults and geriatrics with diagnoses including cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, and general medicine
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3-4 depending on acuity
- May be asked to float into other acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
- Common titratable drips include dopamine, dobutamine, cardizem, amiodarone, ativan, insulin, and heparin
- RT equipment including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP is present on the unit
- Nurse aides are available on the unit
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- 6–9 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Schedules are set by leadership for 6-week periods; travelers are expected to remain flexible to fill scheduling gaps
- Facility assignment within the zone is communicated on a schedule-by-schedule basis; some shifts may be assigned Just-In-Time (JIT), 1–2 hours before shift start
- EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
Requirements
- Active CO state RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of PCU/IMC experience required
- Must have experience with cardiac drips, insulin, ativan, and heparin titration
- Comfortable titrating and managing cardiac drips, insulin, ativan, and heparin
- Prior neuro experience preferred
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Driver's license required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidate must permanently reside at least 60 miles from the Colorado Springs city center
Additional Information
- Designated charge nurse on each unit; charge typically does not carry a patient assignment, though night shift charge nurses may occasionally take a small patient load
- Orientation consists of 1–2 days with a preceptor (approximately 12 orientation hours total); clinicians must be physically present in-state for the week of orientation even if initial modules are completed remotely
- All time-off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment
- Holiday rotation coverage may be required
- On-call/standby requirements are rare and primarily related to low census
- Any scrub color is acceptable
- Travelers are responsible for securing housing that allows them to float throughout the full 60-mile Zone 1 radius — this requirement applies regardless of where housing is obtained
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
