Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro Unit night shift position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and active ACLS and BLS certifications.
Details
- Neuro-focused Med/Surg unit within an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes general medicine with a focus on neurological diagnoses
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
- 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
- 13-week minimum contract length; longer contracts considered
- Travelers are required to float first
- Every other weekend required (approximately 5–6 weekend shifts per contract)
- EMR: Epic (experience preferred); Pyxis for medication management; SBAR for communication
- Manager-created scheduling
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license (license pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but required prior to start)
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of this health system must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Navy blue scrubs required; not provided
- 24-hour unit orientation provided, followed by weekly orientation sessions
- Approximately 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules required annually
- Neuro experience and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification are preferred; willingness to take on a charge nurse role is also preferred
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; RTO is not permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
- Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility may be eligible at a different rate
- Travel pairs are allowed, but each must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
