Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position at a Level II Trauma acute care hospital, requiring PCU experience and telemetry strip interpretation skills.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting, Level II Trauma Center
- 32-bed Med/Tele/PCU stepdown unit with a strong cardiac and telemetry focus
- Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as cardiac catheterizations, EP studies, pacemakers, ETOH, COVID on BiPAP, pneumonia, influenza, sepsis, and acute-on-chronic conditions
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 (with occasional 1:5-6 on nights); PCU-level overflow care is managed at a 1:3 ratio
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitroglycerin, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine
- RNs work with BiPAP, tracheostomies, Airvo, and similar RT equipment
- Portable telemetry monitors, bedside monitors, and a telemetry tech at the nurses' station are available; RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own strips
- 12-hour shifts, days (7a–7p) with rotating nights (7p–7a) available; rotation to nights will not occur more than once per week
- Every other weekend required
- Every other holiday required
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Travelers are first to float; floating includes all areas as helping hands, PCU for full patient load, MS for full patient assignment, and some ER holds/boarding
- EMR: Epic (preferred, not required)
Requirements
- Active ND RN license or Compact (NLC) license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- PCU experience required
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips required
- A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
Additional Information
- Charge nurses are present on both shifts and occasionally carry a light patient load of 2–3 patients
- Nursing assistants/patient care techs are available with a goal ratio of 1:10
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 twelve-hour shifts (Friday and Saturday of the first week), with independent practice beginning that Sunday
- Any color scrubs are acceptable
- Candidates who have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through an outside staffing firm will be considered
- RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be disclosed upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
