Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med/Surg position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, ACLS/BLS certifications, and night shift availability.
Details
- Neuro-focused Medical Surgical unit in a hospital setting
- Patient population includes general medicine with a focus on neurological diagnoses
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Night shift, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM (3x12-hour shifts)
- 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
- Contract length of 13–26 weeks
- Travelers are required to float first
- Every other weekend requirement (5–6 weekend shifts per contract)
- Epic used for documentation; Pyxis for medication management; SBAR for communication
- Manager-created scheduling
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required (may submit with license pending)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required prior to start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
Additional Information
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification and neuro experience are preferred
- Charge nurse experience or willingness to learn the charge nurse role is preferred
- Unit orientation is 24 hours, conducted on a weekly schedule
- Pre-start modules of approximately 8–10 hours are required and must be completed annually; modules are completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, and in-person classes
- Navy blue scrubs required; not provided by the facility
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- No RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation; RTO of 7 days or fewer may be approved provided it does not fall on a holiday
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and could be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
- Any previous permanent, PRN, or employee pool staff of this health system must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Travel pairs are welcome; each traveler must have their own transportation and be flexible with differing schedules
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
