Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring at least 2 years of experience and strong telemetry and med-surg clinical skills.

- 20-bed Med/Surg Tele unit at a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma academic teaching hospital in Macon, GA
- Patient population includes stroke and brain injury patients, post-op surgical patients, and those with acute or chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, CHF, infections, and electrolyte imbalances
- Patient ratios: RN 1:4–6, LPN 1:4–6, with 2–3 CNAs per shift
- 12-hour day shifts, 7a–7p, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation: 6 shifts per 6-week schedule
- Floating required to all adult med-surg and telemetry units within the facility
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
Requirements
- Active RN license — GA or Compact license required
- Current BLS and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) certifications required; ACLS preferred
- Medical-surgical national certification preferred but not required
- Minimum 2 years of med-surg/tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Experience at a Level 1 Trauma and/or academic teaching hospital preferred
- Proficiency with trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin drips, heparin drips, and titrated drips
- Experience with IV insertion, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring
- Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required
- Experience with Epic EMR required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include cardiac telemetry monitoring, IV and drip management, wound care, post-op monitoring, discharge planning, and patient education with a focus on renal and fluid management
- Unit is supported by CNAs, a unit secretary (7a–11p), charge nurses, a PICC team, central telemetry monitoring, and 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage
- Equipment used includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, Glucommander, PCA pain management systems, and portable vital sign monitors
- Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays
- Scrub color for RNs is navy
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies in GA, and the same rate applies for local travelers
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
