Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, with telemetry skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management.

Details

• Hospital-based Med/Surg Tele unit with a focus on cardiac and neurology services
• Patient population includes stroke, hip and knee, colorectal cancer, ERAS, general surgical, occasional GYN, hospice, pre and post cath, tele neurology, and oncology patients
• Patient ratio of 1:5 or 1:6
• Night shift, 12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15), 3 shifts per week; 36 or 48 hours per week available
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required to other Med/Surg units as needed
• EMR: Epic; also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication
• Unit handles its own scheduling
• 13-week contract minimum; longer contracts considered

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required; license pending at time of consideration is acceptable
• Required certifications: BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS); ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
• Proficiency in IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start
• Two professional manager/supervisor references from within the past 12 months are highly preferred; pending references at time of consideration are acceptable but required by start date

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Orientation consists of a full week of hospital orientation classes followed by 2 clinical orientation shifts (12 hours each); no time off permitted during the first week of assignment
• 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules required; must be completed before start and renewed annually
• Scrub colors: any combination of navy and white
• Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval; RTO cannot be arranged on-site after booking
• Candidates who have previously worked for Novant Health or New Hanover in any capacity (permanent, PRN, or extended placement) must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
• Travelers may be required to care for COVID-positive patients; pregnant team members are the only exception
• Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a different rate
• Travel pairs are allowed, provided each individual has their own transportation and is flexible with differing schedules
