Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position at a Level II Trauma acute care hospital, requiring PCU experience and the ability to read and interpret cardiac strips.

- Acute care hospital setting, Level II Trauma center
- Med/Tele/PCU stepdown unit with 32 beds
- Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with cardiac diagnoses such as cardiac caths, EP studies, and pacers, as well as patients with ETOH, COVID on BiPAP, pneumonia, sepsis, influenza, acute on chronic conditions, and general surgical patients with cardiac history
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4–5 (occasionally 1:5–6 on nights); PCU-level overflow patients are staffed at 1:3
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine
- RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips; telemetry portable monitors, in-room monitors, and a station tech are available
- RT equipment on unit includes BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo; RNs are expected to manage this equipment beyond basic troubleshooting
- EMR: Epic (preferred but not required)
- 12-hour shifts, days (7a–7p) and nights (7p–7a)
- Every other weekend required
- Every other holiday required
- Travelers are first to float; floating may include PCU for full patient load, Med/Surg for full assignment, and some ER holds/boarding
- No on-call requirement
Requirements
- Active ND RN license or Compact (NLC) license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- PCU experience required
- Telemetry/cardiac nursing experience required, including ability to read and interpret cardiac strips
- Driver's license required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- More cardiac/telemetry-focused unit with PCU-level overflow care
- Charge nurse is present on both shifts and may occasionally take a light patient load of 2–3 patients
- Nurse aides/patient care techs are available with a goal ratio of 1:10
- Orientation consists of 2 consecutive 12-hour shifts (Friday and Saturday of the first week); travelers are expected to be independent by that Sunday
- Any color scrubs are acceptable
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, to be eligible
- RTO must be requested upfront; 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract will be considered, and no additional RTO will be approved
