Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN - PACU for a 13-week travel assignment at a Level III Trauma Center in Farmington, NM, requiring a minimum of 3 years of experience and an active NM or Compact RN license.
Details
- Work setting is the Main PACU floor of a 198-bed Level III Trauma Center serving the Four Corners region of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah
- Role is Phase I Recovery RN covering General Surgery, Ortho, Neuro, Ob/Gyn, Urology, ENT, and Robotics cases
- Facility performs Level I and II trauma procedures (excluding Open Heart surgery) despite its Level III designation, as high-acuity cases are flown in from surrounding regions
- Patient population is adult mid-to-high acuity
- Patient ratio is 1:1 to 1:2
- PACU unit has 7 beds
- Day shift: 8:30 AM – 6:30 PM
- On-call required on weekends and evenings
- Floating may be required to Pre-Op and/or Endoscopy
- EHR system is Cerner
- Equipment used includes Mindray monitoring systems
Requirements
- Active NM or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 3 years of PACU or post-operative recovery nursing experience required
- Trauma level recovery experience required
- Experience with pediatric dental recovery is preferred

- Provide Phase I post-anesthesia recovery care for a diverse surgical patient population including general surgery, orthopedic, neurological, Ob/Gyn, urology, ENT, and robotic cases
- Farmington, NM is located in the scenic San Juan River Valley of northwest New Mexico, offering outdoor activities including hiking, kayaking, off-roading, and access to six National Parks
- The city is approximately 1 hour from Durango, CO and 3 hours from Albuquerque, NM

Pros
Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.
Cons
It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
