Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU (Phase I Recovery) position at a Level III trauma center in Farmington, NM, requiring a minimum of 3 years of experience and an NM or compact RN license.
Details
- Main PACU floor of a 198-bed Level III trauma center capable of performing Level I and II procedures (excluding open heart surgeries)
- Specialty recovery for General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurology, OB/GYN, Urology, ENT, and Robotics cases
- Adult patient population at mid-to-high acuity levels
- Patient ratio of 1:1 to 1:2
- Day shift, 8:30 AM – 6:30 PM
- 40 hours per week
- On-call required on weekends and evenings
- Floating may be required to Pre-Op and/or Endoscopy
- Uses Mindray monitoring equipment
- EMR: Cerner
Requirements
- Active NM or Compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS and ACLS
- Minimum 3 years of PACU or post-anesthesia recovery nursing experience
- Trauma level recovery experience required
- RN degree required
Additional Information
- Preferred experience includes pediatric dental recovery in addition to the required skill set
- The facility serves the Four Corners region of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah, and receives trauma cases flown in from surrounding areas
- Farmington, NM is located in the San Juan River Valley and offers outdoor recreation including hiking, kayaking, off-roading, and access to six National Parks
- The city is approximately 1 hour from Durango, CO and 3 hours from Albuquerque, NM

Pros
Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.
Cons
It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
