Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical/Surgical Night position requiring Epic proficiency and comfort with a 1:6-7 patient ratio in a trauma-focused inpatient setting.
Details
- Inpatient Medical/Surgical unit in a hospital setting
- Patient population includes traumatic brain injuries, subdural hematomas, spinal/spine injuries, orthopedic trauma, and neurological trauma
- Patient ratio of 1:6-7
- 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15)
- Every other weekend required
- Float requirement to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding areas
- 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
- Contract length of 13–26 weeks
- Epic (required) and Pyxis used on unit
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- BLS required
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience within the last 5 years
- Epic documentation experience required
- Must be able to manage heparin drips, PCAs, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, IV starts, and phlebotomy
- Required skills include colostomy care, feeding tube management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac), tracheostomy management, wound care, oral suctioning, nasal cannula, O2 protocol management, non-invasive airway management, dysrhythmia management, isolation precautions/PPE, and traumatic brain injury care
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but required before start)
Additional Information
- ACLS, dysrhythmia interpretation, CVA management, pre/post hemodialysis, pre/post neuro surgery experience, spinal cord injury care, and drip management are preferred
- Orientation consists of 12 hours of unit orientation and 16 hours of organizational education; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
- 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules required (non-paid); modules must be completed annually
- Navy scrubs required
- Candidate must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays; RTO may not fall on holidays
- Contract staff will be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
- Mid-contract unit consolidation or reassignment may occur based on facility needs
- Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are subject to a different pay rate
- Travel pairs are permitted provided each traveler has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
