Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN with proficiency in circulating and scrubbing across multiple surgical specialties, including cardiac, vascular, and robotic procedures, for a 13-week travel assignment at a major academic medical center in West Virginia.

Details

  • Work setting is a large, 838-bed short-term acute care hospital and Level IV Trauma Center that is a member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH)
  • Assignment is in the Operating Room with an average daily census of 22 cases
  • Surgical specialties include vascular, orthopedic, general, ENT, urology, robotic, and gynecological procedures
  • Schedule is 3x12-hour day shifts, with start times of 9a-9p or 11a-11p depending on assignment
  • Every other weekend required
  • On-call requirement of 1 day per week and 1-2 weekends per 4-5 week schedule; 30-minute response time when on call
  • Weekend call example: Sat & Sun 7a-7p call, with second call and overnight call coverage on rotating basis
  • Charting system is Cerner and Accudose
  • Free parking available for travelers

Requirements

  • Active WV or Compact RN license required; candidates with a pending RN license may be considered
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience and at least 1 year of OR-specific experience required
  • Proficiency in both circulating and scrubbing required
  • Experience with cardiac and general surgery, vascular, thoracic, and robotic procedures required
  • Proficiency in vein harvesting and radial artery harvesting required
  • Vascular experience required, including AV fistulas/grafts, aortic surgeries/bypasses, femoral-popliteal or distal bypasses, carotids, and embolectomies
  • Orthopedic experience required, including arthroscopies and total joints
  • General surgery experience required, including colorectal/colon resections, laparoscopic-assisted surgeries, Whipples, liver resections, thyroids, and mastectomies
  • ENT experience required, including trachs, laryngectomies, and radical neck dissections
  • Urology experience required, including cystectomies, nephrectomies, prostatectomies, implants, and cysto-related procedures
  • Robotics experience required, including GYN, colorectal, hernias, and lap Nissens
  • GYN experience required, including abdominal/vaginal hysterectomies and posterior/anterior repairs
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 – March 31); medical exemption with documented allergist or physician record accepted
  • Required documents for consideration include: Driver's License, Social Security card, and a minimum of 2 manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years

Additional Information

  • Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible; candidates residing 75–99 miles away may be submitted for facility approval on a case-by-case basis
  • Former permanent employees of this health system are not eligible to return as a traveler until 2 years after their last day of permanent employment
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply provided the experience requirements are met
  • Orientation is held every other Friday
  • Holiday coverage is required via on-call shifts (emergencies only) during major holidays, even when they fall on a weekday
  • Holiday RTO requests should be limited to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays
  • Scrub color is royal blue, white, or a combination of both
  • COVID vaccine is not required
