Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Pulmonary Step-Down position at a large Level I Trauma Center, requiring ventilator and tracheostomy experience with a 3x12 day shift schedule.

Details

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a short-term acute care, Level I Trauma Center and academic medical center with over 1,500 staffed beds
  • Pulmonary Step-Down patient population, including patients on mechanical ventilation
  • Average patient ratio of 1:3
  • Day shift schedule, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (3x12s)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
  • No on-call requirements
  • Charting in Epic (experience required)
  • Parking available at an additional monthly cost

Requirements

  • Active CT (Connecticut) or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted provided it is active prior to start date — note that CT licensure takes 15–21 business days to process
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of PCU/step-down experience required; candidates with 1.5 years of experience may be considered if they have Level I Trauma Center or travel experience
  • Ventilator experience is a hard requirement — candidates without this will not be considered
  • ICU, telemetry, and tracheostomy experience required
  • Trauma Center experience at a large facility required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Skills required include: central line care/management, care of ventilated patients, tracheostomy care/management, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, cardiac monitoring, blood product administration, respiratory care, and management of cardiac drips (no titration)
  • 1 professional reference required for consideration
  • Candidates must not have any prior disciplinary actions on their nursing license

Additional Information

  • Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
  • Former permanent staff of this health system must have been separated for at least 2 years before being considered as a traveler
  • RTO of up to 7 days may be approved; requests exceeding 7 days require additional approval
  • Flu vaccination is required; declinations are not accepted
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required; religious and medical exemptions are considered
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Pre-start and annual online modules are required and completed prior to the assignment start date
