Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a 13-week travel contract requiring at least 2 years of OR experience, prior travel assignments, and demonstrated robotic (da Vinci) and orthopedic surgical experience.
Details
- Acute care hospital OR setting with 9 OR suites, 1 procedure room, and 1 hybrid room averaging 35–45 cases per day
- OR operates 24/7 covering a broad range of surgical specialties including general, ENT, eyes, ortho, robotics (da Vinci and Rosa), neuro spine, vascular, peds (dental/ENT), and emergent cases; all surgical cases except CVOR and L&D C-sections
- Day shift position: 8-hour shifts, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
- Weeknight on-call rotation (7:00 PM–7:00 AM) and one weekend 24-hour on-call per month; holiday call rotation as required
- OR techs are on staff; overnight shifts require the RN to function as the sole RN alongside 2 techs
- Float to outpatient surgery as needed
- Charting via Epic (experience required)
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV RN license or compact RN license required
- Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) certifications required; PALS preferred
- Minimum 2–3 years of OR experience required
- Minimum 2–3 prior travel assignments required
- Orthopedic surgical experience required
- Hands-on experience passing arms in and out for robotic (da Vinci) surgery required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
- Driver's license with an address reflecting residency outside the 50-mile radius required
- 2 references required: 1 supervisor reference and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (if perm employment within the last 12 months, one reference must be from that facility)
Additional Information
- Circulating is the primary RN responsibility; scrubbing is a plus but not required
- RNs and OR techs rotate through charge nurse responsibilities; charge nurse coverage is 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
- OR techs are responsible for room turnover; no aides or housekeeping support in the OR
- Unit is predominantly staffed by travel nurses
- Facility-provided scrubs for RNs and OR techs
- Orientation consists of 3 shifts over 1 week
- Day shift candidates with limited experience in a single service line may be considered if willing to learn or refresh that specialty with facility support; evening, night, and 3–11 shift candidates must have broad multi-specialty OR experience
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have completed a 2-year break before applying; this includes travelers who have reached a cumulative 1-year mark within the WVU system
- All candidates interview directly with the unit manager
- Former permanent employees of this facility are not eligible to return as travelers until a 2-year break has been completed
