Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg night shift position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, Epic proficiency, and the ability to take on charge nurse responsibilities.

Details

  • Hospital Med/Surg unit serving adult and geriatric general medical/surgical patients
  • Daily unit census of approximately 43 patients with a target nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6–7
  • Procedures include insulin drips, heparin drips, wound vac dressing changes, high-flow oxygen, and occasional short-term BiPAP with respiratory support
  • No PCU-level patients on this unit
  • Uses Epic (required), Pyxis, and SBAR communication framework
  • 12-hour night shifts, 18:45–07:15
  • 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
  • Assigned to every other weekend
  • On-call required for pre-scheduled call shifts
  • Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding areas
  • Contract length of 13–26 weeks

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license (may be pending at time of consideration)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Ability to manage insulin and heparin drips
  • Must be able to serve in a charge nurse role on night shifts
  • Must be able to work holidays (2 out of 3 major holidays required)
  • Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but required prior to start)
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility may be eligible at a different pay rate
  • Previous permanent, PRN, or per diem employees of this health system must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
  • No RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of RTO may be approved for the remainder of the contract as long as it does not fall on a holiday
  • Orientation is approximately 24 hours, conducted weekly; 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules are also required
  • All travelers are expected to attend monthly unit team meetings (4th Wednesday, January–October; 3rd Wednesday, November–December at 17:30); additional night shift meetings are held the following Friday at 07:30
  • Travelers will be assigned to an Inclement Weather/Storm Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
  • May occasionally care for COVID-positive patients
  • Navy scrubs required; not provided by the facility
  • CPI certification and charge nurse experience are preferred
  • Travel pairs are allowed; each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
