Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Step-down (PCU) travel position in Chattanooga, TN, requiring ACLS and a minimum of 2 years of experience.
Details
- Work in a 30-bed Cardiac Step-down unit (3 West) within a hospital setting
- Patient ratio of 5-6:1
- Unit is staffed with unit clerks on days, 2-3 PCTs on day and night shifts, a nursing supervisor, and hospitalists
- Equipment includes Welch Allyn vitals neuron, Novameter glucose, Philips Telemetry, and MP2 monitors
- Medication administration via WOW with med drawers and Pyxis ES dispensing system
- Documentation in Meditech (HCA version)
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 13-week contract
- Equivalent of every other weekend required (4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule)
- Floating to other med/surg areas including general MS, ortho, PCU, and MS surgical with oncology on a rotating basis unless skill mix is needed
- Procedures performed on unit include chest tube management, wound vac management, and ad lib EKGs
- Knowledge of Heparin, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, and Amiodarone drips required
Requirements
- Active RN license — Tennessee or Compact license required
- Current BLS and ACLS required (AHA or ARC accepted; certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the start date)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Minimum 2 years of recent Cardiac Step-down or PCU nursing experience
- Cardiac knowledge preferred
- Meditech EMR experience preferred
- US SSN and DOB required for consideration
- One professional reference required (two required for candidates licensed in Florida or Missouri)
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Candidate must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Responsibilities include telemetry application documentation, acknowledging and charting rhythm strips each shift, and adhering to a NO PASS ZONE policy for bed alarms, call lights, and IV alarms
- Patient experience expectations include bedside rounding and hourly rounding with 5P's checked, as well as reporting known patient needs to PCTs at the start of and during shifts
- Navy scrubs required for RNs; no artificial or gel nails or gel nail polish permitted
- Unit is supported by a tenured charge nurse team with 12–39 years of experience on days and 15+ years on nights
- Unit participates in Shared Governance at both the unit and facility level
